Curricular Aspects

 

  1. To ensure proper curriculum planning

Curriculum delivery is planned through academic calendars, student orientation on curriculum content, class routines, teaching plans and updating of library books.

Curriculum is delivered through LMS in College App, Google Classroom, licensed Zoom App, Google Meet. Content is delivered through video tutorials, ppts, lab work, field trips and educational tours.

We have a strict adherence to CIA.

Internal and Tutorial Examination: Formative evaluation through Internal and Tutorial Exams, are conducted as per Calcutta University examination schedule.

·Class Tests: Frequent class tests are conducted for formative assessment.

· Students’ Seminar: Renowned speakers are invited to share extended views on given topics or,

students share their views through seminars.

· Remedial Coaching: As per Internal Test scores, Remedial Coaching is provided.

· Mentor-Mentee: Each faculty, as mentors, oversee a given no. of students as their mentee.

Quiz: to enhance aptitude and reasoning ability.

· Student seminars: to develop public speaking skill.

· Debates: to strengthen argumentation skills and ability to articulate and defend a position.

For quality assurance, the following are done:

(a) Internal Audit: Annual Internal Academic and Administrative Audit Reports are prepared.

(b) PO, CO & PSO mapping: PO, CO and PSO Mappings, displayed on College Website, are done to

trace student achievement and to locate areas of academic weakness.

(c) Feedback collection: Departmental meetings and Parent-teacher meetings are organized regularly to

obtain effective feedback for quality enhancement.

 

  1. To further enrich the curriculum

For curricular enrichment, Institution integrates crosscutting issues relevant to Professional Ethics, Gender, Human Values,

Environment and Sustainability in transacting the Curriculum. These cross-cutting issues, as available in the prescribed syllabus, are addressed through seminars and workshops, as on Intellectual Property Rights, Cyber Crime, or street plays on Gender issues by B.Ed. Dept.

The undergraduate course's AECC paper incorporates Environment as a compulsory subject, aiming to

raise awareness about Environmental Pollution, Environmental Hazards & Disasters, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

The institution's dedication to these crosscutting matters is evident in its policies like equal opportunity,

gender audit, annual gender sensitization plan, Plastic free Campus etc

A. Experiential Learning:

Field-based: Field trips and educational tours are organized to enhance the cultural and intellectual growth of the students.

Community based: Mobile library, health awareness rally, book walk etc. are conducted for community service.

Project based: Projects are regularly circulated among various departments.

Research and writing based: Lab-based research, dissertations, and creative writings are regularly practiced in the college.

Guest Lectures: Specialized Lectures are being conducted to acquaint students with works outside the syllabi.

Internship: Industrial visits as a part of the internship are held. As part of the CCF system, various departments conduct internship programmes too.

B. Participative Learning:

Value added courses: Add-on courses and skill-based courses are offered.

Participation in Workshops / Seminars /Webinars: Students are encouraged to attend and

present papers on various topics of contemporary relevance.

Group Discussions and debates: Provide a platform for the students to build their argumentation skills.

Teamwork: Events like blood donation camps, cancer awareness day, tree plantation, etc. are regularly organised by NCC/NSS.

Peer Teaching & Role Play: Conducted to improve the role of students as teachers or mentors.

Drama, Music & Eco club: Grooms students in theatrics, music, and environmental awareness.

Participation in competition: The college holds various inter-college science, cultural, and sports competitions.

Right, Duty and Citizenship: Electoral literacy club generates necessary awareness.

Problem-Solving Strategy: Software designing by various departments, blood sugar check-up etc. are adapted by the college.

Hands-on training programs: On mushroom cultivation, sanitizer and soap making bio compost, and GST.

Open ended Problem solving: HTML page design is taught.

Innovative model development: Censored dustbin, Water Light Science Exhibition, Crystal engineering etc. are implemented.

Assignments & Quizzes: Regular class tests, quizzes, are conducted to dictate the areas of improvement for the students.

Case study analysis: Students are involved in analysing practical problems through various case studies.

Competitive Examination Facility: Students are offered with 48000 questionaries involving Mathematics and Reasoning for their self-evaluation process.

D. ICT Enabled Tools for Teaching

LMS & Google Classroom: Access to resources like PowerPoint presentations, virtual labs, and audio-visual aids.

Video Conferencing tools: Tools like Zoom and Google Meet aid in conducting online classes and meetings.

Mobile App: College app deals uniquely with all the academic concerns of the students (class

routine, class attendance, notices etc.).

Usage of National digital library and repositories: Students and teachers can access e-books and journals for reference.

Social-Media: YouTube, Facebook, and WhatsApp help in circulation of educational information.

Smart Classrooms: improve student performance by allowing teachers to tailor their lessons to individual learning styles.

Courseware: Software like C, C++, python is introduced to students.

Transparent Mechanism of Internal/External Assessment:

A. Pre-notified Schedule: (CLARITY)

Academic Calendar contains tentative schedule.

Calcutta University declares actual schedule.

B. Decentralised Examination system: (ACCOUNTABILITY)

Each department consecutively bears the responsibility of conducting internal & external exam, headed by academic committee. Examination Sub-committee conducts IA in well planned manner- drawing routine, questionpaper & answer scripts collection and submission, result declaration.

From schedule to change in schedule (if any) every minute details are displayed on college website and college app.

C. QR Code system: (ACCESSIBILITY)

To track regular attendance and attendance in internal examination. Allowing them to see how numbers are given.

D. Assessment Breakdown: (CONSISTENCY WITH STANDARDS)

Internal Assessment (home centre):

20 marks (written exam+ class attendance)

Tutorial/Project: 15 marks

Practical (home/away centre): 30 marks

· End Semester Examination (away centre): 65 marks/ 50 marks

External (Hons paper): CU appoints examiners and Head examiners maintaining utmost confidentiality.

External (General paper): Allocation is done by Departmental coordinators.

Two step authentication - Marks are uploaded in UC exam portal, then submitted to Calcutta University portal. Entire process is conducted under supervision of departmental coordinators.

Answer scripts of CIE are shown and discussed.

Alternative exam dates are provided who have valid reasons for failure/absence.

A. Error correction:

Any error in Admit card related to spelling mistake, subject combination, papers chosen, payment related issues are resolved by college office with utmost care.

B. Re-examination and FSI:

Calcutta University declares the schedule and College communicates the same through website and app.

C. RTI Assistance:

Dedicated State Public Information Officer (SPIO) and Assistant SPIO is available to assist RTI process.

PO-CO has been analysed through Direct & Indirect Methods of Assessment. Revised Blooms Taxonomy used for analysing Course Outcome. Action Plans framed to fill the gaps.

 

Research, Innovations and Extension

 

  1. To bring new research projects under BOOST lab for students

Three projects have been sanctioned under BOOST for collaborative research work.

  1. To have an ecosystem of innovation Indian Knowledge System (IKS), including awareness about IPR, establishment of IPR cell, Incubation centre and other initiatives for the creation and transfer of knowledge/

technology

The following done to have IKS and establishment of Incubation centre:

  • Research projects undertaken by in collaboration with National Institutes on drug development of rare diseases in preclinical model.
  • Course on Spoken Sanskrit and seminars on it in neighbouring schools conducted.
  • Mushroom Cultivation Course started.
  • Smart dustbin with sensors built in Incubation Centre
  • Mobile Library introduced.
  • Preparation of compost from kitchen leftovers of schools
  • Program on Medicinal Plants and their uses by Botany Dept.
  • Establishment of Institution's Innovation Council (IC202325241) in the campus as per the norms of Innovation Cell, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India during the academic calendar year 2023-24.
  • Advanced facilities of the Boost Biotechnology Lab and Central Animal Facility enables advanced research of faculty members, research scholars and UG students. The college has developed a “preclinical research hub”.
  • Central Computer Laboratory provides Computers with high-speed internet for students and teachers.
  • Digital Language Lab run through “Orell Talk software” has been installed in B.Ed. Department for English and Bengali method students.

IPR:

  • Teachers participated in different training programmes under National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission organized by Intellectual Property Office, India.
  • College frequently organizes discussions, interactive sessions over the issue at different times.
  • National Seminar on IPR in the field of Science and Scientific Research has also been organized by IQAC of the college in collaboration with Department of Zoology.

  • Another three storied building has been built to accommodate CBCS system, Chemistry Lab space has been increased.
  • Extended space for Physiology and Zoology labs.
  • New auditorium, viz. Platinum Jubilee Bhavan, Haripada Ghoshal Bhawan, Jayanta Banerjee Bhavan were started.
  • Central Computer lab has been renovated.

 

  1. To install motion-sensor for energy conservation
  • Motion-sensors have been successfully installed in classrooms, washrooms.
  • Fire extinguishers installed in all sensitive building corners and stairways.
